JUICY, FLORAL, TEA-LIKE.

Producer: Multiple Smallholder Producers
Location: Uraga, Guji
Elevation: 2340 meters
Variety: Ethiopia Landraces
Process: Fully Washed, 48-60 hour fermentation

Gogogu originates from Dida Haro Hada Raro, a remote town in the Uraga district of Guji, Ethiopia's Oromia region. Oromia is the largest region in Ethiopia and home to over 30 million people. The name "Gogogu" is an Oromiffa word meaning "dry," and it's also the name of the main mountain in the area.

Reaching Dida Haro Hada Raro is quite an endeavor. It involves flying to Addis Ababa, then a local flight to Hawassa, followed by a five-hour drive on challenging dirt roads. This town is also home to Gogogu's processing center, where local producers, traveling 30 to 90 minutes from their farms, deliver their coffee cherry by horse, mule, or donkey.

The local rainy seasons, which once lasted only a few months, now extend nearly year-round due to climate change. This has made daily life and coffee harvesting, particularly during the December to February season, much more difficult. Farmers now rely on increasingly rare sunny days to harvest and transport their coffee.

The farmers in Gogogu practice intercropping, using false banana trees, maize, Korch, Wanza, and Sesa as shade trees, chosen according to the coffee plants' age and needs. The area's sandy loam soil is fertile, well-draining, and retains water well, supporting high-quality coffee without the need for fertilizer.

This year's offering brings back classic flavors we haven't experienced from Guji in quite some time. We're absolutely thrilled by the initial juicy notes, which are beautifully balanced by a floral, and tea-like finish. It truly offers an elegant tasting experience that we think you'll love.
